Dann wurde dieser Name 1931 in Datsun (Sohn von Date) und später, 1934, in Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. umgewandelt.
1950 begann Nissan mit der Entwicklung und Produktion von Fahrzeugen für ausländische Märkte. Dieses Geschäft entwickelte sich rasant: 1960 wurde die Nissan Motor Corporation in den Vereinigten Staaten gegründet, 1966 nahm das erste Nissan-Automobilwerk außerhalb Japans in Mexiko den Betrieb auf, und 1980 wurden Produktionsstätten in Europa und den Vereinigten Staaten eröffnet.
